These two short stories will delight the lover of historical romance!

The Art of Seduction

Clara Cameron will do anything to escape her impending marriage to the odious Lord Desmond, even if it means posing nude for artist Brendon Evans, the man she once loved. It’s been years since they’ve seen each other, but Clara’s love for Brendon hasn’t diminished. Will Brendon recognize Clara and admit his feelings for the woman before Lord Desmond comes calling, claiming Clara for his own?

Meant For Me

For years Cynthia Shaw has replied to Gabriel Baston’s letters, pretending to be his fiancé, Cynthia’s wretched cousin Helen. When Gabriel appears at a masked ball and mistakes Cynthia for Helen, she can’t help herself and gives her innocence to the man she has loved for years. Will Lord Kennwick realize Cynthia was meant for him before it’s too late?

This anthology is approximately 30,000 words and is appropriate only for adults!

If you enjoy these short stories, you might also enjoy Lori’s other historical romances Wild Heart, Wild Desire and A Night of Secrets.

I loved both these short stories. They are well written, interesting, with relatable characters. True there isn't a whole lot of character development, due to their short duration, yet I was able to get a good feel for all the protagonists and even relate to their individual plights (that's a developed character, isn't it?) In any event, I enjoyed the first story, but absolutely LOVE the second one...that's probably because I am a sucker for romance stories that have a Cinderellaesque quality, which the second story does. Be aware that neither story is a clean romance, as both include explicit love scenes; although IMO, the sex did not in any way overwhelm the story. Both stories makes for perfect bedtime reading, or when you just have a little time to indulge in some reading. I would recommend them both as worthwhile reads.

THE ART OF SEDUCTION

This first story is lovely. Clara is desperate to escape a forced marriage with a despicable man. To that end, she arranges to work as a nude model for Brendon, a man she knew and loved, as a child. Brendon has a tortured past, one which resulted in his hiding away in a less than desirable area of London pursuing his art. When the two meet again, sparks fly and the story progresses from there. Although short, the story that unfolds is fully developed, despite the fact that all the events take place in one afternoon. Because of the past history between the couple, their love for each seemed real. Although Brendon and Clara were not corresponding with each other, the story does include an aspect that involves letters. It is through these letters that Brendan comes to know and care for Clara. A thoroughly enjoyable story.

MEANT FOR ME

This was a 5 star read for me! As a child, orphaned Cynthia was sent to live with her mother's sister and her family. Over the years, poor Cynthia has been treated like an unpaid servant; she spends her days at the continuous beck and call of her aunt and cousin, Helen. From childhood there has been an informal understanding between Helen and Gabriel, Earl of Kennwick. While traveling abroad, Gabriel instigated a correspondence with Helen, by writing letters to her. Helen, a selfish, vain, unfeeling creature, could not be bother with the correspondence, so ordered Cynthia to respond. Thus begun a relationship by letter between Cynthia and Gabriel, although he believed he was corresponding with Helen.

Over the course of the next two years, Cynthia and Gabriel each poured their heart out in their letters, getting to know each other quite intimately. In the process, Cynthia falls irrevocably in love with Gabriel. Upon his return home to England, Gabriel is frustrated to discover that the woman with whom he'd corresponded, the woman he thought he knew, doesn't seem to exist. Helen is an annoying enigma to him; he finds that he feels more comfortable with Cynthia. One night Cynthia is forced to impersonate her cousin at a masquerade ball, where she meets and dances with Gabriel. From this point the story very quickly unfolds to its conclusion.

The story that unfolds is sweet and engaging. I felt Gabriel's anxiety keenly. He endured an unhappy childhood, and is determined to have a happy marriage and family life; something which, through their machinations, Helen and her mother are equally determined to rob him of. As for Cynthia, the poor thing endured years of mistreatment at her aunt's hands, as well as that lady's hatred; the source of which is a complete mystery to Cynthia. This is a lovely story. If you like romance stories which incorporate a twist on the Cinderella fairytale, then you're sure to love this one.

Love Letters Historical Romance edition by Lori Brighton Romance eBooks Reviews

Another book downloaded based on reviews that just didn't do it for me. Love Letters is made up of two novellas - in both, the story's more rushed than necessary, the dialogue skepticism-inducing, and everything's crammed in order to toss in a lengthy and underwhelming sex scene.

The first one kind of made me feel like the "hero" did a rather confusing 180. Starts off grumbling and dark, then suddenly he's OMGSOINLOVE? Yeah, okay.

The second one was all right, I suppose...still felt rushed but was at least kind of cute.

Overall, I worry about what slop these people are reading that they'd give crap like this and Sweet Release 5 stars.
The Art of Seduction - I enjoyed this story very much. It was well-written and the story line easy to follow. The author drew the reader in and allowed us to experience the emotions of her characters. The story had intrigue, suspense, a sexual scene, and romance. A love that has lasted for many years.

Meant For Me - I enjoyed this story as well. The story line was easy to follow. I was a little confused with the references of Lady Hogar in one sentence than Mrs. Hogar in the next. Then there is the reference to Gabriel Baston, the Earl of Kennwick, but then it is Mr. Baston and Lady Kenwick is Mrs. Baston. But otherwise the story had intrigue, betrayal, detailed sexual scenes (not too bad, though), and romance.
First off you don't just get one lovely short book you get THREE (3)! Both of these stories are so romantic. A great taste of whats to come!!!
Book One
Clara is still looking for her knight in shinning armor. This time she has made the resolve to do whatever it takes to have Brendon as hers. She has waited far to long to have to wait one more day. For if she fails tonight her own fate has already been promised.
Book Two
Cynthia is one of the children that has been left behind. Her life has not been that of a loving and caring family. And her Aunt is willing to use her to her own advantage no matter the cost to Cynthia. Only now Cynthia has fallen in love and wants more for her life.
Book Three
Grace is an independent woman but in the wrong time. She is ready for anything but not Alex. It seems Grace has met her match with Alex. Oh and let us not forget Gideon, he is one I look forward to learning more about.
Enjoy!!!
Quick synopsis two quick spicy reads with four great characters.

First is Brendon and Clara. Clara has adored and longed for Brendon since she was 15. His younger sister's best friend but not quite on his radar. After the loss of his wife some ten years after there have last seen each other Clara is on a mission. She has sought him out in a rough area of town where he is playing out being a artist. She goes in as a model but he has no recollection of her. As she prepares to be his muse he notices bruises on her arm but doesn't want to get involved however he can't seem to stop. Clara just wants this done and get the money and run, she also hope Brendon will recognize her but he doesn't seem to. As things heat up and a dawning realization made Clara's life catches up to her...will things work out in time?

Second story Cynthia is a poor relation dumped on her aunt's steps at 12 her aunt has no use for her till her daughter needs a doppelgänger for a ball..at this fateful ball Cynthia must pretend to be her cousin to keep her cousin's intended interested. Trick is she's in love with the intended Gabriel so feigning interest isn't hard. When he makes he convince him she wants him not knowing the dupe in play things get a little out of hand. He's satisfied with the match till he starts uncovering the deception...will Cynthia obtain Gabriel's forgiveness, could he ever want her?

Again, Lori Brighton excites and delights.
